We've included hundreds of demos, shareware and freeware on this disc, in addition to Breen's examination of Apple's iLife. For details, see the index within the interface.
Software provided on this CD-ROM has been compressed. All software must be uncompressed and installed onto your hard drive. If you are unable to play game demos or go online, or if movies play back poorly, you may be short of memory. Quit other applications to free up more RAM and continue.
If you are using OS 8/9, you should set your browser's memory partition to at least 20MB. Memory is automatically managed in OS X, so this is not a requirement in OS X.
1) Turn on the Virtual Memory using the Memory Control Panel and set your total memory to at least 32MB. If you are using MacOS 7.5.5 or later this is the recommended solution.
2) To change memory allocation for a program, click once on the program's icon to select it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and set the Preferred Size to the desired amount.
3) Make sure you have enough memory to open the application you wish to run. To check your available memory use the "About this Computer..." menu option under the Apple menu while in the Finder. To check how much memory an application requires, find its icon in the Finder, then press Command-I to get info. On the memory screen of the get info dialog, you can see the minimum memory required and increase the game's memory partition size.
4) Quit any applications you are not current using in order to free up memory for the software on the CD-ROM.
Minimum Classic System Requirements:
1) Mac OS compatible computer (with a Motorola Power PC Processor).
2) System 8.1 or newer.
3) 14 inch color monitor with the capability of displaying 256 or more colors at a resolution of 832 x 624 pixels.
4) Quad speed (4X) CD-ROM drive.
5) QuickTime (QuickTime 3, Sound Manager 3.2).
6) 20 MB of free RAM. At least 64 MB of physical RAM is recommended. To see how much available RAM your computer has, choose "About this Macintosh" from the Apple Menu.
Software created for Mac OS X is usually provided in a format specific to Mac OS X. The "tar" and "gz" file name extensions signify that the file is compressed into an archive. Use StuffIt Expander (available from Aladdin--http://www.aladdinsys.com) to extract these files.
Files with a "dmg" file name extension are disk images. To use them, open Disk Copy from your OS X Applications:Utilities folder, then drag and drop the file onto the Disk Copy window.

BY USING THE CD YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT, IMMEDIATELY RETURN THE UNUSED CD FOR A FULL REFUND OF MONIES PAID, IF ANY.
The articles and other textual materials from Macworld, software programs and associated documentation, utilities and other software and associated documentation, and other materials included on this CD and their compilation (collectively, the "Collection") are licensed to you subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement by Mac Publishing LLC, having a place of business at 501 Second Street, San Francisco, CA 94107 ("Mac Publishing"). In addition to being governed by the terms and conditions of this Agreement, your rights to use the software programs and associated documentation are governed by the agreements for each such software program that are set forth in and that shall be displayed by the operation of such programs (the "Software Agreements"). Your rights to use other programs and materials included on the CD are also governed by any separate agreements distributed with those programs and materials on the CD (the "Other Agreements"). In the event of any inconsistency between this Agreement and any of the Software Agreements or the Other Agreements, this Agreement shall govern. By using the Collection, in whole or in part, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Mac Publishing Owns the title to the Collection and to all intellectual property rights therein, except insofar as it contains materials that are proprietary to third-party suppliers. All rights in the Collection except those expressly granted to you in this Agreement are reserved to Mac Publishing and such suppliers as their respective interests may appear.
1. LIMITED LICENSE.
Mac Publishing grants you a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use the Collection on a single dedicated computer (excluding network servers). This Agreement and your rights hereunder shall automatically terminate if you fail to comply with any provision of this Agreement or any of the Software Agreements or the Other Agreements. Upon such termination, you agree to destroy the CD and all copies of the CD, whether lawful or not, that are in your possession or under your control.
2. ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS.
A. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) directly or indirectly, by electronic or other means, reproduce (except for archival purposes as permitted by law), publish, distribute, copy, rent, lease, sell, sublicense, assign, or otherwise transfer the Collection or any part thereof or this Agreement. Any attempt to do so shall be void and of no effect.
B. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) use the Collection or any part thereof for any commercial purpose or reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, merge, modify, create derivative works of, or translate the Collection.
C. You shall not (and shall not permit other persons or entities to) remove or obscure Mac Publishing's or its suppliers' copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices or legends from any portion of the Collection or any related materials.
D. You agree and certify that the Collection will not be exported outside the United States except as authorized and as permitted by the laws and regulations of the United States. If the Collection has been rightfully obtained outside of the United States, you agree that you will not reexport the Collection, except as permitted by the laws and regulations of the United States and the laws and regulations of the jurisdiction in which you obtained the Collection.
3. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY.
A. THE COLLECTION AND CD ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE CD, THE COLLECTION, AND OTHER MATERIAL THAT IS PART OF THE COLLECTION IS ASSUMED BY YOU. MAC PUBLISHING AND ITS SUPPLIERS ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEFECTS IN THE CD OR THE ACCURACY OR APPLICATION OF OR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THE CD OR THE COLLECTION. Mac Publishing AND ITS SUPPLIERS DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE FUNCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE COLLECTION WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE CD OR THE COLLECTION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS IN THE CD OR THE COLLECTION WILL BE CORRECTED. B. IN NO EVENT SHALL MAC PUBLISHING'S OR ITS SUPPLIERS' TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES, LOSSES, AND CAUSES OF ACTION (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE) EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU FOR THE COLLECTION.
4. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS.
The Collection is licensed subject to RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or disclosure by the U.S. Government or any person or entity acting on its behalf is subject to restrictions as set forth in subdivision (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software Clause at DFARS (48 CFR 252.227-7013) for DoD contracts, in paragraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software Restricted Rights clause in the FAR (48CFR 52.227-19) for civilian agencies, or, in the case of NASA, in clause 18-52.227-86(d) of the NASA Supplement to the FAR, or in other comparable agency clauses. 5. GENERAL PROVISIONS.
Nothing in this Agreement constitutes a waiver of Mac Publishing's or its suppliers' rights under U.S. copyright laws or any other federal, state, local, or foreign law. This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the Collection and the CD and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings or agreements, written or oral, regarding such matter. You are responsible for installation, management, and operation of the Collection; however, if you have questions or problems regarding the CD or the Collection, you can email cd@macworld.com. This Agreement shall be construed, interpreted, and governed under New York law, applicable to agreements made and to be performed in such state. If any provision of this Agreement shall be held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
